Everton Story Telling
R.P. Egedesø was founded in 1935
On February 13, 1935, Rasmus Peter Egedesø founded his company, R.P. Egedesø in Odense. He had just finished a commercial education and began manufacturing spare parts and components for bicycles. In the early 1940's, Rasmus Peter Egedesø began making bicycles from frames produced by the local frame manufacturer, Børge Kildemoes. Egedesø painted and decorated the frames he purchased from Børge Kildemoes and later started his own frame production.
Named after a British football club
In the early 1950's a name needed to be found for the bicycles. At that time, the bicycle market was dominated by many German bicycle names and since “German” was not particularly popular after the war, an English name was preferred - an English name that was easy to pronounce in Danish. The choice was Everton, named after the popular British football club, Everton F.C.
Rasmus Peter's two sons, Peter and Bjarne, had both been involved in the company. However, they went their separate ways when Peter started his own bicycle production while Bjarne continued running the company, R.P. Egedesø in the Odense suburb, Tarup.
The family business was sold
On January 1, 1995 the Everton name was sold to the competitors Smith & CO in Odense, who, among others, also owned S.C.O. - another old and well-known Danish bicycle brand. The production of the Everton bicycles took place at the new company. However, this only lasted for a short period of time, since Børge Kildemoes's bicycle factory took over all trademarks on August 1, 1997 and moved all production to their factory in Nørre Lyndelse, in the middle of Fyn, where they are manufactured today.
Everton is owned by Cycleurope which is a part of Grimaldi Industri. Cycleurope is a consolidation of several companies and consists of well-established local and strong bicycle brands.
